  5. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  7. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try out software before
  8. they buy it.  If you try out this Shareware program and continue using
  9. it, you are expected to register it by sending in your payment of $10.99
  10. (US) for it to Maristream, Inc., at the above address (except if it is
  11. covered by a site license, described below).

  13. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  14. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
  15. stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
  16. commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.  (In both
  17. cases, there are good programs and bad ones!)  The main difference is in
  18. the method of distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to
  19. copy and distribute the shareware version of this software to any and all
  20. groups, companies, and people, so that others get a chance to try it out,
  21. and, hopefully, find it useful and register it with the author.  All files
  22. included with this software must remain together and intact with no modifi-
  23. cations of their contents, except for the installation routine, which may
  24. be modified as necessary by shareware distributors to conform to their
  25. collection's distribution and installation requirements.

  28. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it is commer-
  29. cial or Shareware.  The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier,
  30. because you can try before you buy.  And, because the overhead is low,
  31. prices are low also.  Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -
  32. if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  36. Users of Gold'N Years must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "Gold'N
  37. Years is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all warranties, expressed
  38. or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchanta-
  39. bility and of fitness for any purpose.  The author assumes no liability
  40. for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of
  41. Gold'N Years."

  43. Gold'N Years is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the
  44. user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but please
  45. do not give it away altered or as part of another system.  The essence of
  46. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality
  47. software without high prices, and, yet, to provide incentive for programmers
  48. to continue to develop new products.  If you find this program useful and
  49. continue to use Gold'N Years after a reasonable trial period of around 30
  50. days, you must make a registration payment of $10.99 to Maristream, Inc. The
  51. $10.99 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer
  52. at any one time.  You must treat this software just like a book.  An example
  53. is that this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely
  54. moved from one computer location to another, just so long as there is no
  55. possibility of it being used at more than one location at the same time,
  56. just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.

  58. Commercial users of Gold'N Years must register and pay for their copies
  59. of Gold'N Years within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.
  60. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Maristream, Inc., and
  61. may include a custom (text) splash screen in place of the current initial
  62. screen, which is free for purchasers of 50 or more copies, or $20 per site
  63. license for lesser amounts.  Custom versions of Gold'N Years are covered
  64. by the same copyright as Gold'N Years itself (which will still be stated
  65. on the splash screen), and may be given away freely and/or re-sold for
  66. not more than cost to your customers as a service from you in accordance
  67. with the quantities specified by the site license agreement, but may not
  68. be re-distributed or given away to others by your customers.  The site
  69. license payment will cover the payments usually sent in for individual
  70. registrations, but does not cover materials, duplication, packaging,
  71. shipping, handling, and/or other distribution costs, which are the
  72. responsibility of the commercial licensee, unless covered under a
  73. separate duplication agreement.

  75. Anyone distributing Gold'N Years as part of a library or collection of
  76. shareware programs is encouraged to contact Maristream, Inc., and supply
  77. their address and contact information (especially, for e-mail) so that
  78. the distributor can be kept up-to-date with information about the latest
  79. version of Gold'N Years.  The current preferred method of distributing
  80. updates is through SimTel, where you will be able to download updates
  81. from the msdos/finance directory at SimTel or its mirror sites.

  83. You are encouraged to pass along copies of Gold'N Years to your friends for
  84. evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that
  85. they can use it.  If you have a custom version of Gold'N Years, you can get
  86. an unregistered copy of the shareware version of it on a 3.5" diskette for
  87. $2.50 shipping and handling from Maristream, Inc., to pass along to your
  88. friends (supply the name of the commercial licensee when ordering).
